SEAHEALS: structuring European research on the effects of the marine environment on mental and physical health
An integrated scientific and clinical approach
SEAHEALS is based on a combination of fundamental, clinical and field research. The USSAP, via the Bouffard Vercelli Center in Perpignan, ensures clinical coordination under the responsibility of Dr Charles Fattal and Ms Géraldine Perez with a focus on physical health and rehabilitation pathways. The University of Barcelona, represented by Professors David Gallardo-Pujol, Jordi Renom-Pinsach, as well as Ms. Laura Vinals, is leading the global scientific dimension: methodology, evaluation and research in mental health. The SOM MAR association completes this system with its expertise in adapted nautical activities, ensuring a direct link with field practices.
Research hypotheses focused on well-being
The first directions of the project confirm the interest in exploring the effects of marine environments on:

🔹 Promote connections and psycho-social integration
🔹 Reduce stress and anxiety
🔹Encourage openness to new rehabilitation pathways
These axes are part of a rapidly expanding field of research: that of non-pharmacological interventions based on the environment and adapted physical activity.
Towards research anchored in real practices
The next stage of the project consists of integrating more actors in the field, in particular clubs and structures practicing activities linked to the sea. This approach aims to strengthen the ecological validity of the data and to anchor the research in real practical situations.
A structuring European ambition
SEAHEALS illustrates a cross-border dynamic between France and Spain, combining scientific, clinical and associative expertise. This collaboration makes it possible to combine approaches and structure a common knowledge base around the effects of the marine environment on health.
Reinforced visibility
An official poster of the project will soon be deployed in partner establishments in order to support communication and dissemination of the project in the field.
